He was in training for the 1996 Summer Games when he was killed.

TENNIS Majoli stuns Hingis at French Open PARIS (AP) For two weeks, they talked about Martina, about Steffi, and occasionally about Monica. But nobody picked Iva Majoli to win the French Open even when she made the finals. Somehow the 19-year-old Croatian, slipping quietly through the draw while others made headlines, found a way to turn all the doubts into fuel for positive thinking. "I am the underdog. But I will not surrender," Majoli said when she reached the finals.

"In a final, everybody has a chance." Majoli took that chance and ran with it, stunning top-ranked Martina Hingis 6-4, 6-2 Saturday. She became the lowest-seeded player, at No. 9, to win a Grand Slam women's title in the Open era. League advanced to the finals of the Hot Air Ballon Race Tournament with a pair of wins on Saturday. Robby Stoffer picked up the pitching win. Kyle Dobson homered for Carroll's In their second win the Legion upended Dresden American Legion 10-8 to make it to today's finals. Again Guilliams led the winners at the plate with another grand slam home run while Wesney singled twice and Andrew Smith belted a two-run home run.

Belle fined for gesture to Tribe fans NEW YORK (AP) Albert Belle was fined $5,000 by the American League on Friday for making an obscene gesture to rowdy fans in Cleveland following a game earlier this week. "An obscene gesture to our fans no matter what the provocation is simply not acceptable behavior from a major league player," AL president Gene Budig said. Budig ordered Belle to spend the $5,000 on White Sox tickets and distribute them to disadvantaged youth in Chicago. Belle wasn't available for comment, but the players' union said it will appeal the penalty. Gene Orza, the union's No.

2 official, said if Budig doesn't change his mind after hearing the appeal, the matter might be appealed to the ruling executive council. "With that kind of abuse, it is easy for someone in New York say he has to take it, but it isn't that way the real world," Orza said. "We're thinking of fining the league $5,000 for failure to provide adequate protection for players and encouraging fans to.
