As stated, there are a few places. Sew ins and weaves, we must admit, it’s been a hard tasks to find someone to properly do these services in Madrid. Our recommendation, go to London! As for everything else, none other than Shimada Kemp, Los Angeles Native with over 30 years of experience doing hair all over the world. You read that right, Los Angeles Native. Shimada is a melanin multi-textural hair stylist who accommodates ALL hair textures (yes, natural hair, too). He is an extremely popular figure in Madrid and is known for being one of the best stylist in Europe and we are so lucky to have him in Madrid.
His salon is located in Metro Bilbao on Calle Cardenal Cisneros, 8. From natural hair to straight hair, count on Shimada to take care of your tresses like you would your own. He’s patient and delivers the utmost quality work. Some people will opt for a Dominican salon or somewhere “budget friendly” when in actuality, you won’t get quality like this for this price anywhere.
The experience of a hair salon, we must admit is sometimes the highlight of your day. Shimada gives you the experience, class, funny but most of all he cares about your hair and will explain everything to you that he’s doing. We find that most people end up going elsewhere else because it’s “cheaper” smh and end up disappointed and they always come to him to fix what someone else has ruined. Sometimes cheaper is not always better, remember that. In conclusion, don’t waste your time or money, go to the best!
I’m sure you’re wondering about how much his prices are! Well, Shimada has AMAZING prices and honestly, the quality is unmatched. His clients span across countries and fly out to him from places just because he delivers! They don’t trust anyone else with their hair! After all that, he remains the most humble man you’ll ever meet.
How to Book with Shimada
If you want to book with Shimada, give him a call at his salon at 910376564 or 692862772! He’s quite busy so calling is the best way to get in touch with him. Please be timely with your appointments. He has several clients and he’s almost always booked. Therefore, the likelihood of booking the day before or even the week is HIGHLY unlikely but you never know!
What If I want to get braids? (They only speak Spanish by the way)
The only thing that Shimada doesn’t do is braids (trenzas in Spanish). If you’re looking for braiders than try Lavapies or Cuatro Caminos. Fapenda, Calle del Amparo, 79, 28012 Madrid, Spain (Lavapies) is normally the go to spot because they’re fast. Are the braids better than you’ll get at home? Probably not but you will learn to adjust. They will definitely look good enough. The prices of braids are inexpensive. You basically name your own price. The cost is from 70-100 euros and it includes the hair. Walk-ins are welcome!

Are you ready to find out where we go to get our shea butter, shea moisture etc? We go to Tala Cosmetics! Tala Cosmetics is located at Metro Lavapies on Calle de Lavapiés, 52, 28012 Madrid, Spain. The owner’s name is Ali and he’s there most of the time. He speaks English & Spanish and is a great person that will take his time to assist you. He is VERY knowledgable about ethnic hair and will take his time to explain what products you should be using based on your hair type. He’s very respectful and has a great sense of humor. CAUTION: Products will be a bit more expensive in Spain. Most people even shop online for products at places like Vitacost and iherb, both offer great natural products at great prices just not the brands that you’re maybe accustomed to (there still are SOME familiar brands) but nonetheless, still amazing brands. Tala Cosmetics has a sister store directly across the street, you can’t miss it! It’s Tala Cosmetics 2.0! Bring products from home at first, if you can.
