Just reviewed all 183 pages and only found one entry I recognized (Dr. Edward H. Parker, Jr) who was my Commander in the 388th USAF Disp. I worked in the Laboratory. Shortly after my arrival, word quickly spread, and Thai people, who worked on base, referred to me as the "checky-checker" My "hootch" was across the street from the NCO Club annex with the "Flightline guys." Korat was educational and one of the best assignments of my career.

I spent many a night walking the ramp keying secure voice and IFF mode 4. I had great time and would do it again. George

I was stationed at Korat RTAFB from 11/69 - 9/70. During that time I was assigned to the 388th CSG, 388th HQ Sq., 388th AMS and finally the 553rd AMS as maintenance analyst. I never did figure out whether no one wanted me or everyone wanted me. Other than lots of work I was fortunate enough to have played on the base softball team and as a result got to travel to other bases in Thailand. I'll never forget our bus ride from Korat to Takhli after our C-47 was grounded for maintenance. I felt safer on the bus anyway. Sure would like to make contact with former teammates like "Duke' Ferrin, "Snuffy" Senft, Wayne Mauney, Lee Brooks and others. Like so many have said, one of, if not THE, best years in my life.

Spent the next 2+ years in Japan (Kashiwa xmit'r site 67-68), and 1st MOB at Clark (68-70) with a few TDYs back to Thailand (Udorn, Phitsanulok, Lom Sak) and Korea (Pohang, and Osan) and some day trips to mountain top sites in Laos. Monday 09/26/2011 5:49:53pm Name: Ron Keith E-Mail: [emailprotected] Homepage Title: Homepage URL: Referred By: Search Engine Location: Oklahoma Comments: I was in the 388th MMS from 1970-71 and 1974-75. I worked in the Munitions Supply part of the Munitions Storage area or bomb dump. I was also in charge of most of the areas organized bowling. In 1970 I organized the Korat Kids bowling league that bowled downtown at the "Holiday Bowl" that also had a massage parlor. The league had a lot of WAF bowlers including MSgt Elinore "Red" Rasch who was a SSgt when I was born and MSgt Lena Martin. Red was the WAF highest average bowler in 1970 with 170. The highest man was SSgt Norb Treutel with 208. Bruce Carroll rolled a 299 game and I had a 723 series. In 1974 Mary Goodwin was the WAF highest average bowler with 170 and Steve Hoff was one of the highest average men. These bowlers all bowled on the Korat base bowling teams. I will be adding more than 40 photos to this site of the base, the MMS storage area and hootch area, various bowlers including WAF from 1970 and 1974 and a 1970 WAF softball game. I would like to hear from anyone who bowled at Korat or from anyone else who wants to write.

Wednesday 10/12/2011 2:06:03pm Name: John B Kobberstad E-Mail: [emailprotected] Homepage Title: Homepage URL: Location: Burtchville Township, MI Comments: Served at Korat during March 1972 thru March 1973. Was a computer maintenance AF Sgt at the Army base next door. Remember having to drive the 29 passenger 15

bus to shuttle the guys and myself to and from the building on the Army base that housed the communications computer that routed traffic through it. Remember the cage just outside that held a small monkey captive inside it. We'd take our breaks outside sometimes in the heat and just watch that crazy monkey like we were at a zoo. Also remember running into a civilian (who I went to tech school with at Fort Monmouth Army base for six months prior to going to Korat) in a bar in Bangkok on New Years Eve (December 31, 1972) he was on R&R from another computer site in Vietnam where he was working as a computer maint tech and I was off for 2 1/2 days between my 7AM - 7PM 24hrs off 7PM - 7AM 2 1/2 days off. Didn't really get a chance to meet many people other than the ones I worked with. Also remember a concert on base under the parachute canopies. I thought it was wonderful even took some pictures and developed them myself on the base photo hobby shop. Spent some time also at the club feeding the slot machines which seemed to love to take my nickles and dimes. Loved the chow at the army mess right next door to the comm site and loved the Thai food!! what a meal you could get for a few baht.

Friday 11/11/2011 5:45:54pm Name: Marv Schiffler E-Mail: [emailprotected] Homepage Title: Homepage URL: Referred By: Search Engine Location: Mesa, AZ Comments: Signed in once before. I was with first group of PCS troops to spend a year at Korat, from Apr65-Apr66. They had just finished the new officers club and then built the NCO club and just before I left, the new airmans club was opened. By new, I mean it was a solid air conditioned type structure and not a hootch type building. I was with security police. We had F105's and F-4's. I was at the evening fire in Korat where a couple of city blocks burned and was there when a C-130 crashed on approach and all were killed. I remember some aircraft so low on fuel on return from a run that they stalled out on the runway and had to be towed. It all seems more interesting now than it was back then!? 18

Looking for Billy W. Miller who called Cullman, Alabama home back then. Or would like to hear from any AP's that I worked with.
