"Bitterness Eats Upon The Host" - Maya AngelouOftewel, bitter zijn (lees cynisch / sarcastisch / sceptisch) komt je gestel en energie niet ten goede. Toch is het soms best lastig om super positivo te zijn en blijven in het werk van verandering en sociale gelijkwaardigheid. Het complexe veld, de vele krachten binnen het systeem, omgaan met weerstand. Toch, zo viel me op in de interviews met changemakers / DEI leaders die ik deed tijdens het ontwikkelen van The Third Space, is het keer op keer het vuur dat het wint. En dat vuurtje kan wel wat onderhoud gebruiken. In de gesprekken leerde ik 5 belangrijke inzichten die zo vaak terugkwamen dat ik wist: dit wordt het fundament van The Third Space. Liminaliteit – de ruimte tussen verandering. Inspirerend beschreven door Jitske Kramer in haar nieuwe boek Tricky Tijden. Op individueel, groeps- en maatschappelijk niveau: als je door een liminale fase gaat, en wilt (of moet) transformeren, heb je een ruimte nodig waarin je tot een herbesluit kunt komen.I couldn't agree more. Zoals je misschien wel hebt gezien, start in september The Third Space: een transformative leiderschapsreis voor change makers. Speciaal ontworpen voor degenen die werken op het snijvlak van verandering en social justice. In vele verschillende velden. The Third Space is de belichaming van die tussenruimte, een metaruimte. Voor mensen die niet alleen geloven in een betere, gelijkwaardige wereld, maar ook dagelijks met hun poten in de modder staan om dat te realiseren. Die vanuit hun eigen identiteit gedreven zijn om wereld voor iedereen te creëren. Die ruimte is nodig, omdat juist deze mensen in hun rol vaak extra "emotional labor" leveren, buiten de norm vallen die zij oprekken en geneigd zijn zichzelf niet op de eerste plek te zetten.De deelnemers zijn stuk voor stuk RADIANT en ambitieuze mensen. Ze kiezen voor The Third Space om hun leiderschap en persoonlijke groei te waarborgenen te voeden. Met leerdoelen zoals meer verbinden, minder code-switching, krachtiger leiden in verandering, en het vergroten van psychologische veerkracht, komt er veel aan bod. Op locaties waar ik zelf nog van onderste boven ben staan co-leaders uit de creatieve wereld naast mij en zal je letterlijk gevoed worden door Lelani Lewis' soulfood & story. Waar ik in geloof is ontwikkeling op een systemisch level, dus niet alleen "IK" maar "ik in relatie met, als onderdeel van. From Root 'till Rise. Er zijn nog 4 plekken vrij. De deur is voor je geopend. Dit is zo’n reis waar je naar uitkijkt alsof je met je backpack de wijde wereld in gaat. Ook frkng spannend, maar je gaat op mooie plekken komen. Wat me steeds meer duidelijk wordt, is dat in dit land, rituelen en echte verbinding niet (meer?) op het prioriteitenlijstje staan. En dat is nu juist wat me zo raakt in Jitske’s verhaal: we hebben die rituelen, die ruimte nodig om ECHT goed te kunnen leven, verbinden, functioneren. En te herkalibreren voor de nieuwe fase: de verandering. Begin bij jezelf. Shifting from: neurodivergent people are different, neurotypical people are normal towards: does the neurotypical person even exist? LAUDACE has created these beautiful short impact story docu’s that give us a sneak peak in personal experiences of neurodivergent people. After our panel night at We Are RA*W , Axelle and I shared professional and personal insights and literally went 360 on learning with the great audience. It was inspiring. In my professional path there is never not learning, as it strongly and fully intersects with my personal life and experiences, especially now, when I am, just stepping into my fourties, discovering my own neurodivergent part ; adhd. Change incoming…Therefore, Jasem*n Nassab i want to thank you, because your story went straight into my heart. You are so pure. As it learned me that even though I am just on the verge of getting to know this new part of me, it has always been there. And sharing it with my parents and partner, was nothing more than homecoming: because they love me for exactly that all over the place, timid and center of attention, sensitive, out there, unable to organise objects and read traveldirections, creative, chaotic, clever and overthinking kinda vibe. Kinderen die doodsbedreigingen naar zich toegeslingerd krijgen. Dit is de realiteit. Dank voor het delen Liesbeth Robinson-Hasewinkel jouw post over deze aflevering zette mij aan het denken. Deze aflevering geeft me hoop. Want als er iets anders is in de wereld nu, is dat dingen niet meer onbesproken blijven. Al is het in kleine kamertjes, door ongehoorde stemmen. En nu prime time op het Jeugdjournaal. Wijze kinderstemmen. Ze educaten, delen, geven het voorbeeld. Door er te zijn. En te spreken. Laten wij nu eens ECHT luisteren. Want ondanks vele gespreken, incidenten, waarschuwingen, lijkt “Den Haag” nog niet overtuigd dat discriminatie echt een ding is ( aldus het niet aannemen van een anti-discriminatie op de werkvloer wet, aldus het niet adequaat reageren op islamofobie, antisemitisme, aldus het marginaliseren van stemmen van Nederlanders vanuit de Afrikaanse diaspora en de koloniale mindset die nog steeds regeert.)Hoeveel meer bewijs heb je nodig? Zoals deze aflevering van het jeugdjournaal prachtig eerlijk en duidelijk in beeld brengt, vertegenwoordigt de nieuwe generatie een ongelooflijke statistiek waarin 1 op de 10 kinderen gediscrimineerd worden. Schrijnend. En wij zijn gezamenlijk verantwoordelijk. Meaning: wij de “grote” mensen. Want een kind wordt niet discriminerend/haatdragend/racistisch geboren. 15 jaar geleden werkte ik als anti-discriminatie trainer (D&I “bestond” nog niet). Op scholen die toen “zwart” of “wit” genoemd werden besprak ik discriminatie, identiteit, gedrag en de gedroomde toekomst. In de trainingen kwamen gedeelde of juist eenzame ervaringen naar voren, hakkelende voorbeelden werden met zachte stemmen gedeeld. Er waren ingehouden tranen, lachsalvo’s op ongemakkelijke momenten, leerlingen die “pinda” genoemd worden en het mag want meester zegt het ook… en ook tranen bij mij. En altijd was er ook een lach. Ik heb teveel gehoord en gezien, en meegemaakt om te denken dat discriminatie onder kinderen en jongeren een probleem van nu is… Ik stond daar 15 jaar geleden, jonger en wellicht wat idealistischer, zeker toen ik na een educatieve schoolreis die ik leidde met co-trainer Sabine, ( vanuit ICA ) met een groep voornamelijk islamitische leerlingen Auschwitz’ bezocht en een van de meest verbindende ervaringen van mijn leven had. Ja, ik dacht toen dat alles mogelijk was en dat het goed zou komen, dat we in een lineaire lijn op een oplossing afstevenden en dat we 15 jaar later in een betere wereld zouden leven. Ik weet nu dat dat niet zo is. Dat geschiedenis zich kan herhalen. Dat dingen erger kunnen worden. Maar ik weet ook dat er hoop is. Discriminatie zal er altijd zijn. Dus aan ons de taak om hier iets sterkers tegenover te zetten. In een samenleving doe je het samen. (Malik HELD! ) En dit is wat mij drijft. De veerkracht van kinderen. In Gaza. In Congo. In NL. Op straat. In de dansles. In de albert heijn. In huis. In mijn buik. In mijzelf.Samen doen dus?
